TOUR LOCATION

History of Colombia

Bogotá, the capital of Colombia, is a city that blends the rich cultural heritage of its indigenous and colonial roots with the modernity of a growing metropolis. Founded in 1538 by the Spanish conquistador Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada, the city was established on the former Muisca settlement of Bacatá. Over the centuries, Bogotá has witnessed significant historical events, including Colombia’s independence in the 19th century, leaving a mark on its architecture and culture. One of the main tourist attractions in Bogotá is the Historic Center, where important places such as Bolívar Square are located, surrounded by the Primatial Cathedral, the Palace of Justice, and the Casa de Nariño (presidential residence). This cultural heart of the city is ideal for strolling and immersing yourself in history. The Gold Museum is another must-see, with one of the most important collections of pre-Hispanic gold in the world, narrating the story of Colombia’s indigenous cultures. Just a few minutes from the center is the Botero Museum, which houses works by the famous artist Fernando Botero, as well as pieces by international artists. For those seeking panoramic views, Monserrate Hill is a mountain offering a spectacular view of the city. You can reach its summit on foot or by cable car, where you’ll find a church and a restaurant. The La Candelaria neighborhood, with its colonial architecture and colorful streets, is a fascinating place to explore, filled with cafés, galleries, and street art. Additionally, Bogotá is famous for its gastronomy, which combines indigenous, Spanish, and African influences.
